The
Panther Waits
The Panther watched over Haven City.
Crime had yanked his fair city into
the depth of Hell. The new commissioner held promise, but the Panther wouldn’t
hold his breath. It’d take a special man to clean up Haven, and he liked to
think he was that man.
He balanced along the edges of
rooftops and leapt from building to building. His night vision—aided by a
genetic mutation—was impeccable. As long as there was a brief flicker of light,
he would be able to see, to protect the citizens, to view her.
The quiet librarian sat in front of
the computer’s glow. She was late working tonight, as usual. He often guessed
that she didn’t want to go to an empty apartment until she had to. But he
worried about her. The streets weren’t safe, and his nightly prowling always
brought him to Samantha Chase.
He pulled back when she glanced
toward the window. What was she thinking? The Panther couldn’t tell, and then
she went back to her work.
Someday he would reveal himself to
her. Let her know who he was and why he cared. Today wasn’t that day, though.
He still had to wait.

It has a batmanish feel to it- I like it though. The name 'Samantha Chase' is great. Happy Friday.
Love the names and the mystery! Great flash!
Well, that was an enticing little teaser. Great job. Write this story, please!
Interesting build up. It does have a very batman vibe to it, or superhero vibe.
I love the writing. Well done.
I wonder why he's waiting.
Great piece.
I feel the makings of a classic superhero!
I love it! The Panther is a cool name for a hero too.
