Rejection: Eclipse

I received a rejection email today from Beneath Ceaseless Skies for my short story "Eclipse." I am a bit disappointed by this rejection letter, but it also is exciting. The person actually mentioned a comment about the story. It is the first rejection letter that I've received that had something personal on it. The rejection letter said:

Thanks very much for sending this to _Beneath Ceaseless Skies_.Unfortunately, it's not quite right for us. Getting so much about Raven's past in the opening felt slower to me than starting with whatever her core burning goal might be, the inner thing that's driving her through the story.

I appreciate your interest in our magazine. Please feel free to submit again.

He gave me something to think about for "Eclipse," and I'm going to rework the beginning of the story before I submit it elsewhere. Just getting the little bit of feedback can make it a better story. Now, when I'm going to get a chance to fix it, I don't know, but I will. Then, I'll send it elsewhere. *smiles*

Wow!It sounds as though he wants to see more from you!

The beginning wasn't too slow for me, but I like reading about people's pasts.

This is a good rejection. Very promising.
