This
INDIEpendence day, the Indelibles would like to celebrate indie authors
(self-published and small-press) as a whole by holding up examples of
outstanding indie works. The 25 Indelible authors all believe that amazing
works of fiction can be found in indie novels. By highlighting and bringing
greater awareness to quality indie books, people find great books to read,
indie authors get support, and we continue to change hearts and minds about the
gems that can be found among self-published and small-press novels.
So I've decided to help out by sharing books I think are fantastic that are self-published or small-press published. Click here for the list of people participating in INDIEpendence.
The first one is Cas Peace's King's Envoy. I received a printed ARC copy from Rhemalda Publishing, a fantastic small publisher, after requesting one. I had assumed I didn't get the request since I was expecting a e-copy, but I was thrilled with the printed ARC. I started reading the book and finished it that same weekend. It was amazing. I mean, I want to write fanfiction and live in this world amazing. Cas Peace had created an intricate and fascinating fantasy world filled with characters I loved. I can't wait for book two to come out on August 1st.
In Albia, the fourth realm, the precious Artesan gift is dying. Although
born to the craft, Taran is struggling to achieve his potential.
Against his friends’ advice, he embarks on a foolhardy plan to acquire
the teaching he craves. Alone, he crosses into Andaryon, the fifth
realm, but instead of finding a mentor, he stumbles upon a treacherous
plot.
In the wake of Taran’s actions, Albia suffers a series of vicious raids.
Major Sullyan of the High King’s forces is sent to oppose them. But a
dark and treacherous force is moving through the realms and both Taran
and Sullyan will feel its power.
Their craft, the lives of their friends, the very existence of their
realm are under threat unless they expose and oppose the evil.

The second book I want to feature is the Creepy Hollow series of novelettes by Rachel Morgan. She decided to self-publish them in a series, kinda like TV episodes. I am completely hooked and need my next one. Rachel has taken the time to produce a stunning product from beautiful cover art to a fantastic interior design besides writing a great story with interesting characters.
1. Receive assignment.
2. Save a
life.
3. Sleep.
4. Repeat.
Protecting
humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie
training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better
than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in
years. That is, until one of her assignments—a human boy who shouldn’t even be
able to see her—follows her into the fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a
crime that could lead to her expulsion.
The last
thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this
mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him
forget everything he’s discovered of the fae realm. Easy, right? But Nate and
Vi are about to land themselves in even bigger trouble—and it’ll take all Vi’s
training to get them out alive.

Guardian trainee Violet Fairdale has
officially been suspended for bringing a human into the fae realm. No
assignments, no training, and goodbye to that position at the top of the class.
While this sucks, it at least allows her time to secretly keep visiting Nate,
the human boy who caused her suspension in the first place. It’s not the wisest
move to continue breaking Guild Law, but no one’s going to find out. And Nate
is worth the risk, isn’t he?
To prevent
herself from going into assignment withdrawal, Vi throws herself into
investigating Nate’s real mother, Angelica, a woman who seems to be
mysteriously connected to the world of the fae. Nate’s never given her much
thought, but that was before an insane faerie abducted him in order to
blackmail Angelica out of hiding. Now Nate wants answers, and Vi’s got the
perfect ability to help him.

Violet and Nate may have
escaped the labyrinth, but only one of them came out unscathed. Nate is
now the bearer of a mysterious eye-shaped tattoo, a mark he has no
memory of receiving. While Vi is intent on discovering the meaning of
the tattoo, Nate seems less interested. His experience in the labyrinth
has caused recurring nightmares, and he’d prefer to pretend none of it
ever happened. But Vi has never been one to let a mystery go unsolved,
and she’ll do whatever she can to discover who’s behind the tattoo—even
if it means leaving Nate out of her plan.

This is a great blogfest. Yay for indie writers!
I saw Rachel Morgan's books on another site too.
I've read one Rhemalda title and I have two or three of their other books. King's Envoy looks like a great read.

Thank you so, so, so much for highlighting my books! And I'm so sorry it took me five days to realize this post was here! I've just got back home from visiting family in Cape Town and am trying to avoid the post-holiday slump - this blog post really helped ;-)
