Internet Book Fair Blogfest - ONCE UPON A DECEMBER NIGHTMARE by Cherie Reich

Today is the Internet Book Fair Blogfest hosted by M.A. Leslie. Click here for the post with the links, so you can jump around and find new books to add to your to-be-read lists.

What you are supposed to do is take a moment to talk about your own book. Well, I plan to do that and to mention two other people's books I think you should consider purchasing.

Since Halloween is a few days away, I had to promote Once Upon a December Nightmare. It is a horror/thriller novelette (around 11,000 words) that I wrote back in May 2009 and was published by Wild Child Publishing in August 2010.

They were only going out to dinner and a movie.

But when their plans go astray, friends Cassie, Mary, Denise, and James decide to take a detour down a lonely mountain road. A felled tree blocks their passage and forces them to turn around in a clearing containing a disturbing arrangement of four deer carcasses.

But when their truck breaks down, and their cell phones don't work, they must brave the cold December air, nightfall, and a long hike. Yet this is the least of their troubles. Tension runs high between the four young friends…and they are not alone. Each step brings them closer to safety, but will they make it to the main road alive?

Some reviews of Once Upon a December Nightmare:
"...a delightfully creepy modern tale, with old-time overtones, believable scares, and a breathless epilogue." - Review from Sheila Deeth, author of Black Widow

"Don't read this story in the dark!" - Review from Aubrie Dionne, author of Paradise 21

"I recommend this one with a cup of tea or a cold, dark brew, read at night preferably." - Review from Lisa Rusczyk, author of Chasing the Dark

"A great page-turner!" - Review from Jessica Yopp

"She left me asking for more." - Review from David Huffstetler, author of Blood on the Pen

"Be prepared to have it stick in your memory!" - Review from Elizabeth Swigar, author of Qi

"Very scary, well written, a page turner." - Review from Cher Green, author of Escape to Love

The next book I want to promote is Aubrie Dionne's Paradise 21. Aubrie is a dear friend of mine and critique partner. She is a talented and beautiful writer of science fiction and fantasy with a touch of romance.

Aries has lived her entire life aboard mankind’s last hope, the New Dawn, a spaceship traveling toward a planet where humanity can begin anew—a planet that won’t be reached in Aries’ lifetime. As one of the last genetically desirable women in the universe, she must marry her designated genetic match and produce the next generation for this centuries-long voyage.

But Aries has other plans.

When her desperate escape from the New Dawn strands her on a desert planet, Aries discovers the rumors about pirates—humans who escaped Earth before its demise—are true. Handsome, genetically imperfect Striker possesses the freedom Aries envies, and the two connect on a level she never thought possible. But pursued by her match from above and hunted by the planet’s native inhabitants, Aries quickly learns her freedom will come at a hefty price.

The life of the man she loves.

To purchase: Books on Board, Diesel eBook Store, Amazon, B&N

The third book I want to promote is Alfred C. Martino's Perfected by Girls. I received this book for review and the voice of the piece sucked me in almost right away. A review of this piece is forthcoming on Surrounded by Books Reviews in November, but if you like YA Contemporary and/or girls wanting to wrestle (Greco-Roman style, people), then you might want to take a look at this book.

To Purchase: Amazon

Navigating high school isn't easy for Melinda Radford.

She’s the lone girl on the Ashton High wrestling team, grappling with opponents who refuse to compete against her, a few who want to crush her, and a coach who's less-than-pleased having a female in his practice room. At home, Mel’s parents forbid her from seeing her new boyfriend, her grandmother insists she start preparing for her future by taking a dreary office internship, and her infuriating older brother, who’s the varsity team captain, flirts with her best friend, Jade.

Just when it seems things can't get any more complicated, an off-handed comment puts Mel at odds with her teammates, her brother, and, worst of all, her coach.

But through a twist of tragedy and fate, Mel is given an unexpected opportunity to accomplish something no girl in her school's history has ever done—something that just may redeem her in the eyes of her detractors. Is she strong enough to handle the pressure?

Oooooh, all three books sound good. Especially Paradise 21 and I don't usually read those kinds of books.

Oh, and thanks for stopping by and checking out my book, Cherie. =)

Interesting books, Cherie. Dunno why I'm a nervous nelly and yet I'm drawn to horror stories. :(

You are so generous and gracious to include other struggling authors to your book fair entry.

Thanks for sampling THE LEGEND OF VICTOR STANDISH. Alice, the Victorian ghoul, adds her thanks as well. Being Victorian, she is a very proper ghoul (she says "Thank you for this lovely meal" before she eats you.) LOL. Roland
