Look to the Stars
Inky darkness settled like a blanket over Lily. Tree frogs chirped to each other in their secret musical language. She rested in a bed of sweet smelling clover. The soft leaves nestled against her cheek. Starlight winked at her. One by one, the stars sparkled through the sky. It reminded her of fireflies swirling through a hayfield.
She stretched her arms and fluttered her wings, flicking the evening shower’s droplets from them. The little fairy whistled a melancholy song. A lilting flute-like voice responded.
A young woman ran her fingers through the wheat, nearing the fairy’s bed.
Lily lifted her head, listening to the frogs and voice. Her heart soared before she burst from the clovers and flew toward the stars.
