Wednesday's Writing Update

Yes, I finally created a "Wednesday's Writing Update" picture. Yay!

Unfortunately, I don't have much writing news this week, since I've had this darn cold. It's sapped my energy and my creativity, so beyond my rejection for "Eat Your Heart Out" on Sunday by Dark Discoveries and receiving all my edits for "Melek Katili" (formerly titled "Fallen"), I have nothing new to add really.

Oh, I did find out which agent I'll be pitching to at the James River Writers Conference. It is Melissa Sarver. I'll be talking to her on Saturday, October 9 at 1:21 PM. I plan to pitch The Phoenix Prophetess, and if there is time, I might mention Virtuoso. They might not exactly be her cup of tea, so to speak, but she was my first choice and the agent attending that closest fits what I write. I plan to research her more the next few weeks, so I can figure out how to pitch to her. Here is some information on her according to the James River Writers Conference website: Melissa Sarver joined the Elizabeth Kaplan Agency in 2006, representing authors in both fiction and nonfiction. In fiction she is interested in adult, YA and middle grade, and is looking for literary and commercial projects. She likes dark, edgy stories with brilliant prose and strong voice as well as quirky stories with a fresh sense of humor. She especially enjoys family sagas, multicultural stories and emotional stories with dystopian themes.  In nonfiction, she is looking for voice-driven narrative nonfiction, memoir, lifestyle, business, travel, pop culture, cookbooks and food writing. A graduate of Boston University, she benefits from the experience of working with several literary agencies: Waxman Literary Agency, Brick House Literary Agents, and Imprint Agency (now FinePrint). Her recent sales include Dirty Secret: A Daughter Comes Clean About Her Mother’s Compulsive Hoarding by Jessie Sholl; The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry; Bmore Sweet: A Collection of Vegan and Gluten Free Desserts by Emily Mainquist; The Naughty List series by Suzanne Young; Traveling Instructions and Songs for a Teenage Nomad by Kim Culbertson; and Generation Earn: The Young Professional’s Guide to Spending, Investing, and Giving Back by Kimberly Palmer.

I also realized that September is half over. Ack! Where did the time fly? It means I really need to finish up writing "Lady Death," work on my edits for "Melek Katili," "Wishes," and "Magna's Plea," get my flash fiction finished for the month, and edit/revise like crazy The Phoenix Prophetess. Ugh, this cold has ruined all my well-laid plans! *sighs* Oh, well. I am slowly starting to feel better, although I'm a bit worried it has moved to my chest. We'll see.

Now, I'm off to write flash fiction.

It took forever to get my rejection from Dark Discoveries too.

Hope you feel better and can get back to work soon! And good luck with your pitch session!

And although I haven't been sick, I haven't been writing either. Editing, albeit slowly. I did send the full of Hidden in Shadows to both a publisher and an agent so fingers crossed!!!

And Bloody Carnival is released today! Woot! Limited edition hardcover and the softcover is on sale until Halloween. It's the first time I'm in print so I'm stoked!

Nicole - Thanks! Editing is more than I have been doing, although I did write a few reviews today and finished my flash fiction pieces for the next two Fridays. And, I'm excited about Blood Carnival being released! I think I'll get the limited edition hardcover book when it comes out. It's always the best when it is your first time in print. I mean I'm all for ebooks, but there is something magical about print. *grins* Congrats to us!
