Wednesday's Writing Update

I don't know what it has been about the month of April, but I haven't written much at all. I wrote the sonnet "A Midsummer Delight." I finished up chapter three in my new WIP, but it was only a few hundred words. Beyond that, I've done nothing. I believe it is because I got rid of my short story deadlines, except for Raven and the Writing Desk. I must write and finish my short story for May's blog by Monday, especially since I'm supposed to add it to the blog on May 5. I have the idea in my head. I just have to get writing. There are times when I really, really wish that there was a device that I could hook up to my brain and watch it type out my thoughts. Books and short stories would be written so much quicker then.

What I've mainly done in April so far is edit. I edited the first chapter of Virtuoso. I edited the first three chapters of Hammered Home. I finished my first edits for Once Upon a December Nightmare, which will be published by Wild Child Publishing. I edited my short story "Grave Mistakes" for Emerald Tales. Edits, edits, edits. Edits take me forever as I mentioned in a previous blog. And, I have more edits coming my way, especially since I have to finish up Virtuoso by beginning June. For one, I want to get my free book from Createaspace, since I finished the novel during NaNoWriMo. For two, I want to begin querying the book to publishers.

Speaking of my publisher Wild Child Publishing, I'd like to give a shout out to them. Wild Child Publishing was featured in Writers Digest for their May/June issue. When I found out, I had to go and open up my issue and read what they said. I think it is so awesome to be working with a publisher that is considered noteworthy in Writers Digest.

Okay, back to writing, I did have two stories come out in the past week. You can still buy Emerald Tales "It was a bright and sunny day" issue and All About Eve. My thriller short story "Grave Mistakes" is in Emerald Tales, and my mythology short story "Hell Hath No Fury" is in All About Eve.

I received two rejections the past week, too. "Magna's Plea" was rejected by Sword & Sorceress XXV, and my poem "A Midsummer Delight" was rejected by Emerald Tales for their "Midsummer's Eve" issue. I promptly sent off "Magna's Plea" to Beneath Ceaseless Skies.

I'm waiting to hear back from several places about my short stories. I should hear something in the next couple days from Abandoned Tower about my story "Soul Survivor," especially since in the last email from them, they said that I should hear something by the end of April. I should also know something in a few weeks about "Eat Your Heart Out," too. I sent it to Dark Discoveries on January 15, and if you don't hear anything in four months, then you're supposed to email them. Hopefully, they did receive it, at least. *crosses fingers* 

I think that's about everything in my world of publishing.

I'd like to give a shout out to my sister's cat Hekate. Her birthday was Monday. She turned four years old. Also, I've had my guinea pig Abby, who is three years old, for two years today. My co-worker had to get rid of her and asked if I wanted her. I'm so glad I said yes because guinea pigs are so cute and sweet creatures.

I'm also very hopeful that the mechanics will fix my car. I bought it last year when my other car died, and it's been acting like we live in the Bermuda Triangle instead of Virginia. The panel controls have gone completely haywire, especially when the car's engine is hot. It's probably a computer problem. The car is only two years old, so it shouldn't be acting like this. It's quite discouraging, especially since I have four more years to pay it off. So, cross your fingers that it gets fixed and doesn't cost me too much. *crosses fingers*

Well, I'm off to play on Facebook until 8:00 comes and I can go home from work. Ah, the joys to work in a quiet library. *grins*
