Wednesday's Writing Update

Welcome to Wednesday, everyone! I swear Wednesdays come more often than they used to. *laughs*

First off, I wanted to bring attention to our first guest short story on Raven and the Writing Desk. Christine Rains is my good friend, and she donated her story "The Kalengu" to us. You can read it here. Christine is one of my critique partners, an old roleplay buddy, and the reason I'm a writer today. She encouraged me to submit a short story, and it rather snowballed from there.

On Friday, I posted a flash fiction piece from the groundhog's perspective called "Six Weeks." You can read it here.

And, have I ever told you how much I love writing? I really do. This much. *stretches out arms* It makes me happy even when it is hard and the writing sucks. I'll even tell you a secret. *glances around* I'm starting to love editing and revising. I know! Big shocker. But, shh, don't tell anyone. Since I started working as a freelance editor/proofreader for PWP, I feel more confident in what I'm doing. Confidence helps. A lot.

I've been keeping up my lists. I've realized in order to finish my current PWP assignment by the end of February, I need to read thirty pages a day (the manuscript is 622 pages long). Besides doing that, there are blog posts to write, flash fiction to write, friend's writing to critique/edit, and my own writing to write/rewrite. I love it, though, and I wouldn't give up any of it. Lists keep me on track.

From now until next Wednesday, I'd like to write another chapter and a half in Virtuoso. I finished chapter five on Monday, and I really need to stick to a chapter and a half in order to finish by the end of May. I have three more chapters to write in my novelette Defying Gravity, and I'd like to finish them by next Wednesday. Those three chapters are rewrites, so they won't take as long. Then, I'll read through the entire thing and send it to CPs. Fix it some more and submit it to my e-publisher to see if they want it. I'm also working on two short stories. "Cassandra Project" is for Pill Hill Press's Told You So anthology. I have two scenes left to write, so I'm hoping to finish it before the end of the week. The other is "The Disappearance of Emma Rose" for Innsmouth Free Press's Candle in the Attic Window. I have three more scenes in it, so I hope to finish it sometime next week, send it to CPs as well and edit it a bit more before submitting it.

I still haven't heard back from any of my submissions out there, but it'll probably be in March before I do.

Now, I'm off to read some blogs and work on my proofreading assignment.

Good luck with all those submissions! I use Doutrope's Digest to keep track of mine.

Do you use it?

Aubrie - Thanks! I keep track of mine with a spreadsheet. I'm on Duotrope, but I must admit I rarely go on there unless I'm looking for some place specific to send my old short stories.
