Umbria and the Unicorn

Umbria slipped through Greymist Forest like a specter. As an assassin, she knew how to disguise herself from human and even creatures’ eyes, but she couldn’t hide from one animal.
The unicorn had been following her for a turn of the hourglass. She’d never had such a generally pure and innocent beast take an interest into her, but this one wasn’t a typical unicorn. He was a black stallion with a silver horn. She wouldn’t even have realized he pursued her, if it hadn’t been for the horn reflecting moonbeams.
As she passed underneath tree branches, she glanced behind her. The unicorn still continued toward her, and she’d had enough.
“Go away! Shoo.” She waved her arms, but the creature came until he was close enough to touch. “I don’t need you.”
The unicorn snorted his disagreement and pressed his muzzle against her outstretched hand. She’d never felt such soft fur. How could this animal want her company? She wasn’t a simple princess anymore. She wasn’t a simple assassin. Life and death pulsed from her hands, but the unicorn didn’t care.
So she let him follow her.
