For the A to
Z Challenge, I'm having twenty-six flash fiction pieces from my Foxwick Kingdom
and its surrounding neighbors. Soon A to Z Flashes of Foxwick will be
available in e-book format. You can add this to your Goodreads list here.
M
Merrilea’s Music
The waves
crashed against the jagged cliff rocks and pounded a steady beat. Boards
creaked upon the pirate ship in a syncopated rhythm. Sails flapped in the wind
as the crew neared the edge of Blackden Barrens and Merrilea Sea.
“Find a place to
land,” the captain called, his voice punctuated by the churning sea.
“Aye, aye,
captain.”
Metal jingled
from the ship’s hold and proclaimed the bounty the pirates had looted. Feet
thundered across the boards. A large creaking crack broke through the ship as
storm clouds coated the sky. The rain burst from their darkened puffs and
pinged against the violent surf of Merrilea Sea.
“Seek land.
Hurry!” The captain’s knuckles turned white from clutching the helm.
Lightning
flashed, and thunder roared.
A lone siren’s
voice rose from the sea’s depths. “Beware the sea’s torrential notes and a
watery grave for scallywags.”
