The Spark Blogfest and Favorite Reads Blogfest

Christine Tyler at The Writer Coaster has created this awesome blogfest involving writers and inspiration.

Plus, question number three works for another blogfest: Favorite Reads Blogfest. I created this blogfest + giveaway over at my book reviews blog, Surrounded by Books Reviews.

Today's question is: Is there a book or author that changed your world view?

The book that changed my world view was Beth Revis’s Across the Universe. I don’t think I’ll ever look at stars the same way. I devoured her novel in one day.

I’ve also cried over Beth’s story on how Across the Universe may be her debut novel, but it wasn’t the first, second, third, or even fourth written novel (I think it was number eleven). Beth’s journey is about perseverance, never giving up.

So far, Across the Universe by Beth Revis is my favorite novel of the year. It inspired me as a reader and as a writer.

The Spark Blogfest: Work-in-Progress Inspiration

Christine Tyler at The Writer Coaster has created this awesome blogfest involving writers and inspiration.

Today's question is: What author set off that spark of inspiration for your current Work in Progress?

Mock cover of Virtuoso
No particular author sparked the inspiration of my current WiP, although it was role-played inspired. I created Nadia back in 2001, I believe. She had the ability to control energy magics and recently lost her boyfriend—not to death like Virtuoso, though. I didn’t get a chance to role-play the character beyond a few posts, since the group never got off its feet. The character changed a bit but stayed with me. In 2009, I wrote Nadia’s story in Virtuoso.

The Spark Blogfest: Doomed to be a Writer

Christine Tyler at The Writer Coaster has created this awesome blogfest. You only had to pick one question to answer for it, but I've decided to write all three and post them today, tomorrow, and Wednesday.

Today's question is: What book made you realize you were doomed to be a writer?

In high school, I saw the musical Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. I became rather obsessed with all things Phantom and ready Gaston Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera. My obsession turned into writing on several role-playing game groups on Yahoo.

Although Phantom of the Opera jumpstarted my passion for writing, JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series cemented it. Once I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone I was hooked. Writing in Rowling’s complex world inspired me to create worlds of my own. It made me become a writer.
