Just a short Indie Life post today, since I'm busy writing, writing, and writing some more for NaNoWriMo.
Publishers can be great and all, but like all things they have their pros and cons. I know me, though. From school, I've always been more an individual person and didn't really trust a group to do my own work. I hated group projects. And although we're not alone even when we self-publish our work, I love having the final say over my product.

Decadent's cover is awesome! :) I never liked group projects either. Nothing less than an A would do for me at school. Having all the control is one thing I really love about being an indie author. Plus no deadlines except my own, even though I was pretty hard on myself this year! *LOL*
I've been seeing this cover around and am more impressed each time I see it. Absolutely love the colors. And the elf ears! :D
That's definitely one great advantage! I love knowing that when I write a novel - I know it will be published. Or if I decide not to, that's fine too.

As to the 'on my own' thing... I think that is actually the part that stresses me out... I have learned the WRITING is better with feedback (though my beta readers get me better than the professional peeps tend to). But formatting, cover, all that? I'd sort of rather not know. My Indie drive is the flexibility... the serials at one end, but also the genre benders and square peg stories. I gotta tell you though, somebody ELSE doing to groundwork to get you in a bookstore is nice.

I never liked group projects either and I've never been a conformist. I like being able to do what I want to do. I like being the business and the talent. It's rad being my own gatekeeper. :)

I'm more of an individual project person . . . but on occasion a group project can be fun. It depends. Most writing is something I like to do alone, unless I have one of those strange moments and ask for ideas like I did yesterday when I was stuck with a short story. I asked my kids about it and they thought I should make the main character have metal/steampunk/prosthetic wings . . . that she can control through special implants . . .and I think they're right. Now, how that fits with all the other stuff in the story . . .well, I'm figuring that part out on my own.
Love the cover! I also love the idea of indie life and would definitely sign up for the support that such a group brings if I was self published. There's already such a great sign up list!

I'm not even published yet, but I too, love the idea of being an indie published author for all the same reasons. Of course, I love the act of writing books, but it's even better getting to MAKE the books I write, if that makes sense. Having other people produce the final products for me just takes the air out of my tires a little.
I am intrigued by the title and the cover.
I completely agree that control over my work is the most awesome thing about being indie. However, I've recently come to value having a close critique partner -- and we both benefit from having someone to bounce ideas off. Decision paralysis can be brutal in this indie publishing world.
Wow, that is a gorgeous cover! As for indie publishers, if you want to go with self publishing, then go for it! Everyone finds their own path and it can- and should- be different than everyone else!

I'm a bit of a control freak...I mean, not terribly, but when it comes to my creative works? BOTH FISTS TIGHT. Thankfully I have a publisher who can work with that, but we don't all get that lucky, eh?

I love your point about having control over the final product. I've been thinking about that a lot lately and have to agree. Us control freaks do well being involved in every step and giving the final go =)
