Wednesday's Writing Update: In Need of Time

Happy Wednesday!

I think we could all use more time. My June goals are lagging as this month continues to fly by. Between my sister's high school graduation, co-workers taking vacations, publishing Men of Foxwick, and editing work for friends, my writing/editing time has dwindled to zero these first few weeks in June.

But I am making some progress this week. I almost have all the short stories in the forthcoming Neighbors of Foxwick outlined. I'm working on my outline for Reforged. And next week I'll be back to editing Part III of Reborn for my first group of critique partners. I've decided to push off editing based on CPs' comments of Part I of Reborn to July. After all, if I take July and August and edit three pages a day, then I'll be finished with that edit and can send it to my beta readers in September, so I'm still on schedule for the May 23, 2014 release date.

Now, I need to try to get as many short stories in Neighbors of Foxwick finished before July. What I don't have done, then I'll have to try to finish in July while writing Reforged. So there'll be a lot more writing and editing in my future.

And last week I had a new story idea. *sighs*

I guess I better get back to work. What are you working on? Have you had a busy June too?

Also, here's an unedited snippet of "Common Love," the first short story in Neighbors of Foxwick.

Bryan Firelark daydreamed of a princess trapped in an ice castle. The last time he’d seen Princess Vereina was over three winters ago. She’d given him a chaste kiss on the cheek after he’d helped his father shoe her horse. Her father, King Damon of Wintermill, banned him from the castle, from seeing Vereina.

Three winters had become a lifetime. Bryan could still feel her soft lips against his cheek. Her blue hair had tickled him, and her eyes reminded him of liquid silver. Did the princess ever think fondly of him?

You have a lot of projects! You can do it. Pen to paper. Or fingers to keyboard.

So, do you ever sleep? Because I don't and I don't have nearly that much going on.

Seriously though, it's awesome that you have those projects and goals.

Sounds like your summer is going to be a lot like mine: multiple projects in various stages of the process, interspersed with real life events that eat up the writing time.

Hopefully I'm not the only person who looks at events like graduation parties, weddings, etc and classifies them in my head as "Not Writing Time."

Whew. That's a lot on your plate, but you can do it! (If you want, I'll steal you a TARDIS. I'm sure the time travel will come in useful. ^_~)

You always amaze me with how much you manage to do. And thank you for always making time for me. :)

I was just discussing that with someone on FB... how I need an extra day every few weeks just for promo/marketing. Lately, I'd like extra days for writing. By August that will change to editing. Well, it better. Best on getting your projects done, Cherie.

You're rockin' it, Cherie! I wish I could get as much done. I'm so out of it, I didn't even remember your new release. *shakes head* I'm trying to reorganize myself, but it's not easy.

I wish time would just slow down for a while. Things always move far to fast for me. Hope you can get on with work when all the distractions clear.

Nice snippet!

I love that you have so many projects and a full life too! You are an amazing writer!

I have many, many ideas, and I'm struggling to find time to work on them. Life has taken a serious upswing this last month, and my attention has been drawn away from blogging, and writing, but I'm trying to carve out new time between things.

Your writing and editing sounds like mine. I've been so busy with other things I've not done much during the whole month. It is hard to keep up with it all at times. (And the new story idea, that happened to me as well. Aren't they fun, and at the same time annoying? It is always fun getting a new one, but then one has to find the time to write it down.)

I hope you can keep up with your goals in spite of everything else you have going on. And it makes me happy to hear you have more Foxwick stories planned!

The story sounds wonderful, thank you! Look forward to reading more.

My best wishes

I'm always wishing for more time, too. June has been especially busy for me, in between commissions and my webcomic! Good luck keeping up with your own goals--I can never imagine juggling as much as you!

Also, love the snippet. It has so many lovely descriptions for something so brief!

You are amazing. I will never get tired to say it. You are one of those persons that inspires me and keeps me from quitting writing. Your enthusiasm when you talk about your plans renews my own. You're one of those friends I must always keep nearby for inspiration. :D

Wow! You need more time- but you are getting a lot of things done with the time you have. I am jealous! :) So glad you are getting so much done. This has been a crazy week for me too. This time of year is so busy. Your short stories sound fascinating. :)

I like your snippet. Sounds like you've been busy! If I can pound out 500 - 1K a day, I'm good. Wrote 8K last week, but I have some major revisions ahead of me; so we'll see how this week turns out. Write strong.

Very sweet snippet. Don't you just love it when a new story idea throws a wrench in your plans? ;)

I think I still have part 2 to read, so I better get on that. Congrats to your sister for graduating! That's exciting.

Great start to the story! I love how you call it a "chaste kiss."
