T is for Thirst for Magic

This year's A to Z Challenge theme is: All About Foxwick.

T is for ... Thirst for Magic

One of my favorite things about writing fantasy is magic. The world of Foxwick has different magics, and many thirst for magical powers. The purple-haired dragon seers have the ability to hear the mind-speak of dragons. Herb witches craft their magic through song. A spoken word or chant can create a powerful spell. Blue-haired sorcerers and sorceresses come from Wintermill and have some of the most powerful magic there is.

What is some of your favorite types of magic?

Magic is fun because it is pretty much only limited by ones imagination.

It's funny, I never used to be interested in stories with magic and was all about the real world only, but now I can't get enough of magic and the supernatural. Strange how tastes can change so much.

I'd like to have the kind of magic that I could snap my fingers and my house would be clean, and dinner made for me. That way, I could continue to write and ignore all the unpleasant stuff.

But I also always thought it would be awesome to be able to control all of the elements. Like the Avatar in Air Bender. :)

I agree, magic is so fun! Sometimes when writing horror it's hard not to think of easy ways to solve the problems by using magic - only there isn't any - just the supernatural! Makes the characters work harder. lol

I like the magic that just happens. I'm tired of male fantasy authors explaining the internal combustion engine for a hundred pages while the no name boy learns all of his powers, etc.

I just want them to shut up, get in the car, and drive. Let's go somewhere please. Don't explain to me how the internal combustion engine needs so much oil, so many cylinders, a starter, a choke...etc. I really don't care.

I like the natural abilities better than the use of items.

I'm a fan of all kinds of magic, but I especially admire and love magic systems that have both rules AND wonder. It's so tricky to do that well.

And I'm grateful to those who make quenching that thirst possible. We all need a little magic now and again.

Magic is awesome! It's so hard to pick a favorite type. I do have a fondness for the witchy kind, though. My mom exposing me to old episodes of Bewitched when I was a kid is what first got me addicted to fantasy! :)
