I must admit the idea of Valkyries and Norse Mythology in a YA setting has taken hold of my mind. Here is how Astrid's parents meet for the first time.
The Chosen
Mist dismounted from her winged
horse. The battled raged around her, but she paid little attention to the
mixture of warriors and Valkyries surrounding her. Her eyes focused upon a lone
man.
Red gleamed upon his sword, and his blond hair drifted in the breeze. His eyes hardened as he fought the frost giant, the last one amongst the enemy. He had no clue the Allfather had chosen him.
The frost giant released a frosty breath.
Ice hardened around the warrior, but he chipped it away and leapt upon the giant. They tumbled and twisted, and Mist lost sight of the man. Was it too late? The blade reappeared, stuck through the giant. She smiled and paused a few feet away.
The warrior roared with pride.
The frost giant pulled out the sword from the fatal wound and pierced the warrior.
His victory drained from his face as both dropped to the ground. The earth shook from the fall of the mighty frost giant. But that beast was no concern of Mist’s, just the man.
She walked forward and offered her hand to the warrior. “Rise, Leif. The Allfather has chosen you as one of his mighty warriors. Come with me to Valhalla.”
Leif opened his eyes and took her hand. His gaping wound closed up as their fingers touched, and he smiled at her. “I would follow you anywhere.”

Yes, because he owes her!
You're right, Norse mysthology is fascinating! I want to read more about Leif! great intro Cherie. Have a great weekend. =)
Sounds like the beginning of a great love story!
Can't wait to read more about this story, Cherie! Hurry to write more. :)
Uh, I have to confess I'm a bit obsessed with Vikings. I really loved this little bit of Flash Fiction. Awesome job Cherie.
Of course a Valkyrie would choose a fallen warrior as a mate! "I'd follow you anywhere." That's us guys, heal a fatal wound and give us that look, and we're yours. :-)
Love the names you chose. It sounds like a great start.
I love Norse mythology. Great flash fiction! :)

Have you read Eaters of the Dead? It's a short novella by Michael Crichton. If you're on a real Norse kick, you should check it out.
I like this sample.
Oh, I want to follow too and find out what happens next to Leif and Mist! Great little piece to whet the appetite for more. :)
Awesome! I want more! :)
I want more! So great, so epic. Love your work so much Cherie!
I like reading about the Norse mythology, especially the Valkyries.
I like the "Allfather" term (did you make that up?!) I also like Mist as a name--cool!
