Friday Flash: Blank Page

We're back to #fridayflash for the month of September. You'll easily be able to tell what today's flash fiction piece was inspired from. *winks*

Blank Page

The blank page mocks me. The cursor blinks, blinks, blinks. What will I write today? The mind comes back with a tabula rasa.

Perhaps I can make up a story about the kitty cat from the calendar. The calico’s hopeful expression tugs on my heartstrings. Does she desire to be petted? Or would she rather have a treat? Oh, what does it matter.

The cursor blinks, blinks, blinks.

August is almost over, and the deadlines overwhelm me. Edit this, format that, write this. Blog posts and Facebook, and we mustn’t forget the three Ts: Twitter, Triberr, and Tumblr. Maybe I could write about a writer on deadlines and getting buried in social media. Eh, who am I kidding? That’s been done, right?

The cursor blinks, blinks, blinks.

I could use this flash fiction piece to delve into my characters or their world, but they’ve all decided to be quiet until I actually get to writing in their stories. They don’t want to color outside the plotlines.

So I will sit and wait for the cursor to stop blinking, blinking, blinking, so I can be writing, writing, writing.

And in the meantime, you wrote something!

That blinking cursor mocking you is such a pain. If I am not in the mood to write, and I force mnyself to, I never produce anything worth while. And deadlines certainly do nothing to help my creativity. Hang in there!

I've felt this way before- it almost zaps all the energy to write out of the hand I'm typing with. Overwhelming feelings tend to invade creativity. Happy Friday and I hope it gets better.

My mother, also a writer, always says, "Stop when you know what will happen next." So I haven't faced the blank page or the reluctance to sit down and write, yet... Hope I don't jinks myself. But I have planned on writing one scene, but then something else just happens. =) Hard to imagine you with a blank page, Cherie. Your mind is filled with great ideas =)

That damn blinking cursor. It just mocks us sometimes. Great little piece.

I love your expression "color outside the plotlines." Meanwhile my cursor blinks not knowing where to cut. So I'm stuck too. :)

I know this feeling all too well, lol.

I actually like blank pages (sometimes more than the words I've written . . . LOL) but yeah, the cursor can be very annoying.

I just went into Word to see the blinking...I knew it did that, but this post made me hyper-aware of it.

Sometimes staring at a blinking cursor is productive imagination time. :)

I always find a blank page refreshing, like you can put anything on it, its the first sentence that wont lead anywhere that gets me stuck.

Also, I may have stolen your prompt.
