Proud Phoenix #atozchallenge

For the A to Z Challenge, I'm featuring twenty-six flash fiction pieces from my Foxwick Kingdom and its surrounding neighbors. A to Z Flashes of Foxwick is now available from Smashwords and Amazon and includes the bonus short story "Lady Death." You can add this to your Goodreads list here.

P

Proud Phoenix

A phoenix’s song struck fear into the enemy’s heart. The fiery bird soared over the battlefield. King Brum had never seen a phoenix in flight like this, but certainly it was a fortuitous event.
An enemy arrow flung into the blue sky.
“Stop that archer!” King Brum’s commanding voice lifted through the clashing of swords and even rivaled the creature’s own melody.
The proud phoenix barely dodged the arrow. Some feathers drifted to the ground, and the bird dove toward the man who had tried to kill a phoenix. Within a few grains of sand, a screech rose and the man’s blood splattered before the phoenix disappeared in flames.

Now if you want to learn more about authors, I’m featuring up to three per day on my blog Surrounded by Books Reviews. To find the other participants, click here.

Ooh, never thought of a phoenix as a dangerous bird, but that poor archer certainly learned the folly of his ways!
