Naughty Nold #atozchallenge

For the A to Z Challenge, I'm having twenty-six flash fiction pieces from my Foxwick Kingdom and its surrounding neighbors. Soon A to Z Flashes of Foxwick will be available in e-book format. You can add this to your Goodreads list here.

Naughty Nold

Nold eyed his rivals. Two other Lochhollowans remained, but only the best sorcerers would journey to Foxwick for the Mage Games. His swordsman Eri had been doing well in his competition and only had one Lochhollowan left to prove he was the greatest in the land, but Eri was much more cunning than Nold had been.
He vowed to change that.
His eyes narrowed as his opponent created a swirl of wind to snatch a phoenix feather. The gusts whipped Nold’s hair in his eyes, and he brushed the strands away. The magic was simple but effective as the sorcerer got his feather.
Now it was Nold’s turn.
He stepped into the ring and watched the phoenix flit through the air. Any magic strength he used couldn’t overshadow the wind and his previously opponent’s own flight to retrieve the feather, but Nold had his own ways. He only had to get a phoenix feather, but no one said how he had to retrieve it.
Light spread from his clasped hands and traveled over his arms. Soon his entire body rivaled the sun’s glow. With a thunderous clap, the light projected over the small crowd, including the judges. In that moment when the light blinded the others, he stole the phoenix feather from the wind sorcerer.
A patter of applause rose throughout the judges when he produced the reddish feather. Nold couldn’t contain his grin as he saw the wind sorcerer’s agape expression.
With a bow, Nold held the feather in triumph.

Nold may be naughty but he's obviously sharp. I love sneaky characters. Fun segment!

Hmm, that's naughty indeed, but I guess they didn't say he had to retrieve the phoenix feather specifically from the phoenix... Smart guy!
