Tagged: The Lucky 7 Meme

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I've been tagged by Madeleine Maddocks, Sorcha, and Christine Rains for the Lucky 7 Meme.

The rules:
1. Go to page 77 of your current MS/WIP
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines, sentences, or paragraphs, and post them as they're written.
4. Tag 7 other authors.

Since I was tagged three times, I'll give you a bit for The Phoenix Prophetess and some from Starred. This is from The Phoenix Prophetess, which is still in edits. It's a shame that beautiful bouquet never gets to her aunt's.

She should buy some flowers for Auntie Fabina’s birthday. She searched through the selection: daisies, roses, tulips, lilies. So many and all so beautiful. She selected two orange lilies, two pink tulips, and one yellow rose.

“How much for the bouquet?”

The elderly man gave her a gap-toothed grin. “For such a lovely lady, they’re free.”

“Oh no, I insist upon paying.” Heat flushed her cheeks.

Here is the bit from Starred.

My arms lowered, and I tapped the side of his truck in a syncopated rhythm. “You can ask, doesn’t mean I’ll answer.”

“Is the only reason you didn’t audition because of . . . you know?” He didn’t want to say my face, and I didn’t blame him. Sometimes around him, I wondered if he even realized the deformity was evident. He didn’t bring it up like the others, and I was glad he didn’t. It was so much easier to talk to him when we kept up the pretense. But my face stopped me from doing a lot of things. In fact, if I hadn’t been damaged in the car accident, I’d still be in LA instead of New Haven.

I know this meme has been going around, so instead of tagging 7 people directly, if you haven't been tagged and would like to see what your 7 lines are, then tag! You're it.

Both of your excerpts are great Cherie! Your comment about the flowers not being delivered has left me wondering - is the old gap toothed man involved?

Great excerpts and both left me totally intrigued.

I also have a character with a deformity in my WIP, just experimenting with different ways of bringing it up, whether to just be blatant from the start, or let it reveal over time.

I've been seeing this meme everywhere lately. It's a good one. I'm enjoying seeing what everyone's working on.

Second one sounds like an emotional story.

Oh, man... That poor girl in the second one. Bless her heart. Hope she overcomes her challenge. :D

Great excerpts, both interesting.

I think you're extremely brave for sharing. Thank you for doing so. I loved them!

Both great, and seemingly so different :-)

Really good ones...more interested in the second one...so many possibilities.

That's great conflict in the second story. Lots going on with the lady and the story can take off in so many directions.

I am definitely intrigued by Starred! Wondering what she didn't audition for, and how badly "damaged" her face is...

Awesome snippets! Seems everyone got the same meme in the past few weeks. :)

I liked them both. Very compelling. Odd how jumping right into the middle of something like that can still produce such a readable moment.

Hehehehe I only went to Doorways when I got tagged, because otherwise I'd physically have to count the pages by hand. :-D

I've been tagged to, but I haven't got around to posting mine yet. Maybe Friday?

Between the two, I liked your first one slightly more. :)
