Wednesday's Writing Update: Reading, Writing, and Editing . . . Oh my!

Happy Wednesday!

My review of Heather Webber's Trouble Under the Tree is up on Surrounded by Books Reviews.

I made the unfortunate mistake of starting Beth Revis' A Millions Suns yesterday. Now I want to do nothing until I finish it. Seriously, go read it now.

I feel like my head's spinning since the new year started. I've been editing, reading, writing, repeat almost every day, or as much as possible. So my 2012 goals were overly ambitious, but it doesn't mean I'm giving up on them yet. If you click here, you can see my goals and how I'm progressing. I've been trying to write, edit, and read every day. Of course, some days I get more done. Others, less. I've figured out if I manage to write everything I would like to write this year, it'll be around 330,000 words. Completely doable, if I keep on it.

I do feel like I've accomplished quite a bit this month so far. I've read one book (Coffee at Little Angels by Nadine Larter) and have started three (Spur of the Moment by Candace Early Bowen, A Million Suns by Beth Revis, and On Writing by Stephen King). I edited a friend's awesome short story, working on a client's manuscript, and finished another round of edits on Defying Gravity (recently pitched it and now am awaiting word). I've written four flash fiction pieces, a few chapters in Fighting Gravity, and finished the short story "Dragon Seer." So I'm getting things done, but at the same time I need to do more. *sighs*

If only there can be more hours in the day.

Do you feel like no matter how much you accomplish it isn't enough? How's your new year starting off?

You've accomplished quite a bit in so short a time. I'm editing and working on a new project, also getting blog posts ready for future blogfests.

Ugh, it's like time just slips through your fingers like water - it just keeps disappearing! But it sounds like you've already accomplished a lot this year, considering we're only 11 days in!
I'm back at school as of this morning, so no more full days of writing...

Good luck with Defying Gravity and all of your goals! I definitely wish there were more hours in a day--that would be amazing. :)

I know what you mean. I haven't been able to read a book in months. I SO want to read again. If only there was more time.

I'm getting depressed that my tbr pile grows faster than I can read them. And that's just my physical books. My Kindle is about to pop. Trying to write too only makes it that much more of a challenge. Good luck with your goals.

So far so good! I've written over 28K and edited a boatload, even halfway done beta reading for a friend. With reading though, I'm slacking, only on chapter 5 of Shatter Me. Must read more!

Wow you've been doing really well to me! I've gotten through the next two chapters of my books already (my goal is about a chapter a week), and I hope to have it done by February! And I will more than meet my goal! My next goal would be to type it (long story, don't ask) and edit it (which can be done at the same time) by June. I tend to "gut" stories when I edit, so I'm not looking forward to it.

My head is spinning at just how much you've done already! You're doing great, but I understand what you're feeling. I always want to do more, but my time is so limited.

Definitely! I go through spurts where I have nothing to work on and then spurts where I need tons of stuff ready to be seen by important people STAT.

I feel this pain

But dude! 330K! That's amazing. I hope you make that goal.

Yes. And quite well, thank you! Hi Cherie, so nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by to follow! We are all giddy with the excitement of this year's A-Z. Glad to see our badge already up!
I don't have near enough books, cuz The Engineer is a major pack rat and there's not enough room for books AND his Mr. Inventor stuff. And this is not the battle I've chosen to fight with him...but explaining that would be a whole post and this is YOUR comment stream, not my soap-box!
I'm a wanna be writer, my first published piece is coming out next month! I'm really excited. I'm working on a space opera (my very first novel that I've been wanting to write since I was a high school junior) Well, not exactly true. I knew I wanted to write A novel. Now I've learned my preferred genre. I'm also intrigued with the cozies...always enjoyed reading those. Sigh. As you well know, there aren't enough hours in the day for all we want. Constant balance, and sometimes I fall off the beam...(former gymnast)
