Book Chat: Favorite Genre(s) Results

And we have the results to your favorite genres. Drum roll, please...

1. Fiction (Mainstream/Commercial) = 7 votes
2. Nonfiction = 0 votes
3. Literary = 5 votes
4. Fantasy = 14 votes
5. Science Fiction = 10 votes
6. Romance = 6 votes
7. Horror = 4 votes
8. Mystery/Thriller = 9 votes
9. Westerns = 0 votes
10. Historical = 3 votes
11. Other = 0 votes

Twenty-two people entered the poll. Most selected more than one genre (I did too!). Fantasy had the most votes. None of us read much nonfiction or many westerns, it seems. We read a lot of genre fiction. The result that surprised me the most was the literary fiction one. Not that there is anything wrong with literary fiction, but it just seems like a quieter category, but quite a few of us enjoy reading it.

What do you think of the results? Anything surprise you about them?

LOL- nobody voted for nonfiction! I should have voted for my dad, who likes to read history books.

I think it's funny that no one voted for nonfiction. The nonfiction I read tends to be about mythology creatures so is it really nonfiction then?

Oh, interesting. I wonder how it would have differed if only one was allowed.. I probably would include fantasy on a list with several choices, but with one, would be a mystery/thriller girl.

And yeah... non-fiction is sort of its own animal, I think. I know a number of men who prefer it, but they don't read much fiction, so they wouldn't be HERE. (in a writer's circle of bloggers)

Everyone lives in a fantasy world. I guess that means the real world sucks.

Interesting results. I like seeing there's a big audience for fantasy and sci-fi.
