Knowledge Tuesday: Google Reader

First off, I want to welcome new and old followers, especially Crusaders. I apologize for being so slow about adding everyone. When I'm at home, I'm on dial-up, and it's so slow that it would take days to add ten people. Okay, I'm exaggerating, a little bit. At my full-time library job, I have access to high speed internet, so I do all my important stuff at work. I'll be visiting and following soon. I promise. Plus, look for my First Crusader Challenge on Thursday. *grins*

Last week, Rachael Harrie at Rach Writes... had a post about Google Reader. You can read the post here.

I cannot thank Rachael enough for telling me about Google Reader. It is amazing. I have all my blogs in one place, including those from livejournal, wordpress, etc. It's super easy to add blogs too. You go into Google Reader, found in the More section of the Google page, click add subscription, copy and paste the blog link, and you're done.

You can sort your blogs into sections. For example, I have a folder for Crusaders. I plan to create one for agents, publishers, and editors too. The sorting takes a bit of time, but it's worth it. Now, I can read updates from Crusaders right away and then go through all the beautiful blogs I follow. If you are part of the A to Z challenge, you could create a folder for those A to Z challengers.

The best part I figured out on Friday when I was out shopping. I can add Google Reader to my Android phone. Yes, there is an app for that. Although the internet situation at home stinks, I can get online through my phone. I was able to keep up with my fellow bloggers over the weekend through the Google Reader app. It was brilliant!

Google Reader also cuts down on the time it takes to load people's blogs. I have all the posts in one place and can scan through them more quickly. It saves you time, people, and we all need to save time. I swear it seems like an endangered species.

Well, I'm off to use Google Reader to read blog posts, and I'll be adding fellow followers and more very soon.

Hmmm. I may have to try that. I haven't yet. Time is an endangered species!

I really need to invest some time in Google reader. It would make reading more organized lol. It looked complicated but will look at it again :)

Agreed! I'm so grateful to Rachel for mentioning it. I didn't realize how easy it was to use, especially with all the new blogs from the Crusade.

I really don't like Google Reader. I'll use it if I don't have any other options, but I much prefer the Dashboard. :P

My Google readers is refusing to work lately, so I'm using comments, and my dashboard to get around. When it works though, it's great.

Madeline - That might have the app for other smart phones, I'm not sure. I found it easier to use at home that way, but I use Google Reader on the computer when I'm at work.

Trisha - I completely agree. Thanks for dropping by!
