First Page Critique CONTEST!

I'm back from my vacation (not that I actually went anywhere, but I was off work for a few days last week).

And, here is the special news I mentioned on my blog last Tuesday. I'm holding my very first contest! Yes, that's right. We have a contest going on from now until Friday, August 13. Yes, Friday the 13th. Muahaha! Okay, seriously now, I'm excited to be having my first contest, but I also need your help.

In October, I will be attending my very first writing conference, the James River Writers Conference. They have a first page critique, and I plan to send my first page critique to be torn to shreds in hopes to learn something and hopefully not walk away in tears. *laughs* Here is where I need your help. I have three novels I'm working on, and I don't know which first page to send. I will put up my excerpts for the first page in my three WIP novels. All you have to do is vote which excerpt you like the best on this blog entry. Vote for the excerpt that hooks you and the one you feel is best written to display my work.

Sounds simple, right? But, of course, I mentioned this was a contest. There must be a winner besides myself by having people vote for my excerpts, right? Yes. The winner will be chosen by random of all who vote.

But, what will you win? The winner will receive a signed copy of my ebook Once Upon a December Nightmare. You might be wondering how you sign an ebook, and I'll tell you how. I will print out my ebook and sign it and mail it to you. You'll have the only printed, signed copy of my story. Also, I will send you a bookmark/business card of Once Upon a December Nightmare. I've been using one, and it works really well. Plus, since this is a first page critique contest, I will give you a first page critique of any work you want to send me, and if you are not an author, I will offer up a candy bar of your choosing (within reason…sorry I won't be sending anyone a 50 pound Hershey's bar or anything like that). You like candy and the critique, more power to you. I'll offer both!

So, now you know the prizes and what is at stake. Please leave a comment at the end of this blog post to vote for excerpt #1, excerpt #2, or excerpt #3 (and leave your email address so I can contact you if you won). Next Monday, I will announce the winning excerpt and the winner of my "First Page Critique Contest."

The contest is now over. Thank you to everyone who entered. You can read who won here.

I love them all, but I'm placing my vote with #3 (perhaps because that one is new to me, so it sticks out)

I want to buy December Nightmare, so if I win, I'll still buy an ebook online. :)

I liked 2 and 3, but in 2 I wanted to know why he felt so bad. On the other hand, elusive is very interesting. Looks like everyone else likes 3, so that's probably the one to go with.

I'm voting for excerpt 2. Starting a novel with a birth scene just seems so appropriate. And yet, mentioning the murder of crows is so foreboding...I want to know what happens! :-D

My vote is #3. Betcha thought I would've said #2, lol But they are all really good, not just the third one.

Number 3.

Two was good too, but I'd have to go with nr. 3.

#1 Felt like like a rundown of information. It didn't hook me.

Number 3 looks great. That's my first choice, and then number two.
