Acceptance: Hell Has No Fury

Yesterday, I received an email about my fantasy/mythology short story "Hell Has No Fury." It was finally accepted into the anthology All About Eve, which will be published by Wolfsinger Publications. Here is a link to view more about the anthology: http://www.wolfsingerpubs.com/AllAboutEve.html. It has my name as Charlie Reich right now. The poor editor has been going through a very hard time, so I figure it'll be fixed up because it was correct on my contract.

It has been almost six months since I sent "Hell Has No Fury" to the anthology. Here is what my story is about:     The lovely earth goddess Anesidora fell in love and married the titan god Prometheus. When she realizes that his love for her is overshadowed by his love for the hairless apes, she knows she has to do something. The goddess speaks to Zeus about how Prometheus stole the sacred fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to the humans. Zeus not only plans to punish Prometheus, but he also punishes Anesidora. The goddess is now the mortal Pandora. Can this woman scorned regain her immoratality or will she open the jar and curse Prometheus and mankind forever?

At this time, I do not know when the anthology will be published. If all goes well, I am figuring Spring 2010. It'll be in print and electronic forms. "Hell Has No Fury" is the sixth story acceptance that I've had for the 2009 year.

In other writing news, I finished the first draft of "Defying Gravity" and received my edits from my critique buddies (Thanks, Christine and Aubrie). Unfortunately, I realized that the anthology that I plan to submit it to does not have the deadline as December 31, 2009 but December 31, 2010. I still have another year to submit the story there. *sighs* I'm going to try to finish up my Carnival story for Emerald Tales first, and then, I'll go back and do the edits and submit "Defying Gravity" to Fire and Ice anthology.

By the way, don't forget to buy your copy of Emerald Tales, Vol. 1 No. 3 "Winter Solstice" issue that has my short story "Io Saturnalia" in it. You can find a link to the information here: http://www.scribblersandinkspillers.com/emeraldtales.html. The special edition of "Winter Solstice" will be available soon as well, so be sure to buy it too, since my good friend Aubrie Dionne has a story in it. Her story "Darken" is about the Ancient Mesopotamian Winter Solstice rituals.

If I don't get a chance to blog again, I hope everyone has a fantastic and safe holidays!

All About Eve Submission

In May of this year, I wrote a short story titled Hell Has No Fury. I submitted it to Wolfsinger Publications for their anthology All About Eve. Today I received an email from them saying that they are still considering my story for their anthology and that they would let me know if they chose it or not at the end of the deadline for the anthology. I am so excited that I am still in the running. As soon as I saw the email, I thought here was my rejection from them, but it's not a rejection yet. Hell Has No Fury still has a chance!

Submissions

The last few weeks, I've been sending out some of my short stories to various places. On May 14, 2009, I submitted a horror story to Mystic Moon Press titled Once Upon a December Nightmare. It is loosely based off a true story that happened to my friends and me, but I changed the ending to make it much scarier. It is over 10,000 words long, and it is about four people who go joy riding on a mountain road in on a cold December night. The truck breaks down, and they are forced to walk back to the main road to find help, but something has already found them. Will they survive their December Nightmare? I have not yet heard back from MMP about the story, but they say it can take four-six weeks to hear back. By the way, this is the possible cover art for Once Upon a December Nightmare if the story is accepted.

On May 27, 2009, I submitted a flash fiction story (around 1,334 words long) to the webzine Abyss and Apex. The story is titled Only One. It is a flash fiction story I wrote probably four years ago or so. I originally submitted it to Midici Press, but I never signed a contract, and I haven't heard back from them in probably three years, so I decided to try to find a new home for the story. "Only One" takes place in Bermuda. A couple are honeymooning there, and they go on a little fishing excursion. A storm comes up, and being within the Bermuda triangle, things change for the couple quite quickly. They say that their response time is a month, so I'll have to wait and see if they accept or reject the story.

On May 28, 2009, I submitted a short story titled Hell Has No Fury to WolfSinger Publications for their anthology All About Eve. They were looking for stories about the first woman...either Eve or Pandora or any other first woman from mythology. I did some research on Pandora, and I found out that she has been linked with the earth goddess Anesidora. Hell Has No Fury is Anesidora's tale on how she changes from the immortal goddess Anesidora to the first mortal woman Pandora. I do not know the response time for this story, but it should be at least by August 2009, since that is when they are no longer accepting submissions for the anthology. Hell Has No Fury is 3,107 words long. If it is not accepted by WolfSinger Publications, I will likely submit it elsewhere.

I wrote Once Upon a December Nightmare and Hell Has No Fury this month. I am hoping to begin other projects soon.
