Life Finds a Way #IWSG | Elements of Untethered Realms #newrelease

The Insecure Writer's Support Group was founded by Alex J. Cavanaugh. October's co-hosts are Dolorah @ Book Lover, Christopher D. Votey, Tanya Miranda, and Chemist Ken. Please visit the other participating blogs.
October's Question: How do major life events affect your writing? Has writing ever helped you through something? For those of you who have been following my blog, you can probably make an educated guess on how I handle writing during major life events. Frankly, I am not as capable of writing when life drains my energy. The good news, though, is writing is something I come back to as soon as I'm able.

Writing also helps me understand the world. I wouldn't be the person I am today without it.

What are your insecurities this month?

By the way, I made an appearance on the new IWSG Anthologies' blog last month. Visit my post about reading short stories.

Though I still am finding myself lacking energy towards the end of the week, I did complete everything I needed to do for Untethered Realms. The ebooks of Twisted Earths, Mayhem in the Air, Ghosts of Fire, and Spirits in the Water have been updated. Elements of Untethered Realms is published in print and ebook formats, and I even updated Fantasy Uprising, which no longer includes Reborn but five short stories from my People of Foxwick and Their Neighbors. I've also been working on my short story for a certain anthology too.

In October, I plan to finalize my submission for that anthology as well as turn my sights to writing Entangled, a UR Worlds novella.

What are your goals for October?

The main thing is that you come back to writing when you're no longer drained. You keep going and that is what is important.
As for goals for October, I am working on the final revision of my novel before I submit it to agents and publishers. That's going to take some time. I've given myself until June 2019.
All the best.

I'm sorry to hear how you lack energy. I hope you get your strength back. I feel similar, at the end of a busy day. I can't write because I'm exhausted.

Congrats on the New Release!!! You worked so hard on it, and I'm happy to be part of it!!!

Glad you had enough energy to get the anthology together. Congratulations!
Writing helps me understand the world.

Thanks again for all you did to get that anthology together! I love the cover so much.
I have been in a similar situation as far as energy but am trying to get back to a writing routine. Good luck with your October plans. :)

I certainly can't concentrate when life leaves me drained. Whenever that happens, I just have to stay away from the computer until the energy comes back. The thing is: I know it will always come back.

Same here. I just don't have the spare energy for writing when something big or bad happens in life. All I can do is survive and know that writing is waiting for me.

Writing is great at helping us figure out stuff. Terrific therapy! Yay for EoUR being out! :) It is awesome. I'm watching my mailbox closely for my copy. Heh.

I'd say you worked on and accomplished a lot last month. I wish I'd been that productive.

Lack of energy really does make it hard to soldier on even in writing. Hope things are and getting better. Happy IWSG!

To read or watch as many scary stories as possible. Otherwise, it's the same as always: write, edit, submit. :-)

Way to go, keeping on top of things! I have to be careful what I plan for my evenings since I expend so much energy during the day with the littles. Who knew budgeting applied to energy as well, eh?

Your accomplishments leave me breathless. And your words encourage me to get back into the mainstream of blogging after a long hiatus.

Health challenges can definitely drain your energy and ability to write. My late husband only had energy to go to his job, which helped us the most, and then sat on the couch or slept the rest of the time. Glad you get back to your writing when you can.

Writing definitely takes a back seat for me, too, when life gets in the way. At least you're able to get back into it quickly.

Glad that you always come back! It makes the times we can't write easier knowing we aren't quitting.

Writing helps me understand and appreciate the world more, too.

I picked up a copy of Elements and I'm excited to read it.

Happy October!

My goal this month is simple. Get writing again.

I love the new book and cover!

It sounds like you've learned where your low spots are and how to work with/around them, which is very inspiring to me and something I tend to forget. Thank you.

Congrats, by the way, and that's a beautiful cover!

You always have the very best covers. I love it!

Getting done when you don't feel like it is the true sign of a pro. Way to power through.

M.J. Fifield said...

That is the important part—coming back to writing as soon as you're able.

Congrats on the latest Untethered Realms release. The cover is really lovely!

Congrats on Elements of Untethered Realms! It looks like an amazing collection. Impressed with all the work you did for that, especially since you've been lacking energy!

And best of luck with all your writing goals for October! So exciting to hear how you're working on both a short story and a novella. Will keep my fingers crossed for you when it comes to the anthology submission!

Congrats on the collection and all the other stuff you've accomplished. That's really great! Hope your energy improves.

My goals for October are to write 10 non*edited pages. I can do it startingggggggg ...... now.

That is the coolest cover for Elements. Hope it does well. You're doing great on your stats!

Look sooo good! Congrats! :)

I’m right there with you when it comes to stressful life events. I can’t even. I’m too stressed. Writing does help me process, but I have to get through the stress to get back to a keyboard. :)

Glad you are having more energy- although I know it's hard to have energy drained at the end of the week.

I really can't write during times of major life changes. My mind is a mess then. :)

Yay for the anthology! Awesome!

Have a great month.

When I wrote full time, it was easier to let writing take me out of my head space... maybe. Some days I still wake up heartbroken, and I let myself grieve for awhile. Then I get on with the day. Work, unfortunately, is getting in the way of my writing lately.

Dawn Simon said...

Stress can make it harder to write! Writing--journaling, fiction, or whatever--helps me process the stress. Sometimes it helps me right away, sometimes it helps me later.

You are super-productive! I'm always impressed with your goals and accomplishments.
