Giveaway and Guest Post with Christine Rains: 13 Reasons Why Geeks Are Better Boyfriends than Alphas

Today I would like to welcome Christine Rains to my blog. Her newest novella in the 13th Floor series, The Alpha, is now available! Take it away, Christine!

13 REASONS WHY GEEKS ARE BETTER BOYFRIENDS THAN ALPHA MALES

The paranormal romance genre is ruled by Alpha males. You see them on the covers gazing hungrily at the heroine, and sometimes that hunger is for her blood. He's dark and brooding and muscle from head to toe. Gorgeous, oh yes, but really, how long could you put up with an Alpha in your life? His possessiveness would get smothering, and you'd be trying to avoid lawsuits for every man he hits just for looking at you.

Geeks, on the other hand, make for much better boyfriends. Here's why:

1)      Free tech support. Okay, this might be a bit of a stereotype, but it is a perk. I might've fried a few hard drives without my husband's techy knowledge. For a writer, this is invaluable.
2)      Time for yourself. The Alpha male will never leave your side and that can get annoying. It's creepy to have someone watching over your shoulder all the time. A geek will occasionally get absorbed in a project, a book, or a video game. They have hobbies and respect yours by giving you time to do what you love. Alone.
3)      Intelligence. Not to say Alpha males can't be intelligent, but they usually don't put as much value on it as geeks. The brain is the biggest muscle in a geek's body. Knowledge is power and it's sexy. I love it that my husband can beat me at Jeopardy!
4)      Attentiveness. The Alpha male's attentiveness can either be scary obsessive or focused on too many other things, neglecting you. A geek usually has a small group of friends and knows the value of quality time. He's not worried about being popular or pounding the guy who just gave you a double-take.
5)      Alpha males tend to be narcissistic. One of the traits of a narcissist is that they lack empathy. A geek will be understanding, a shoulder to cry on, and someone to laugh with. They are by far a more stable emotional rock than any Alpha male.
6)      Geeks have great imaginations and tend to be wilder in bed. Alpha males may be hot and passionate, but they burn bright and fast. They don't have the characteristics of terrific long-term lovers. Most geeks have a lifetime of holodeck fantasies ready to be acted out.
7)      Logic. Alpha males tend to be highly emotional and dramatic. They act before they think. Geeks think things through and act upon logic rather than an immediate emotional reaction. This will prevent several costly lawsuits.
8)      Geeks never forget. They'll remember all the important dates and what you like and don't like.
9)      Geeks don't have obnoxious friends. Usually Alpha males hang out with other Alphas. The testosterone can suffocate you.
10)   Low maintenance. Geeks realize how lucky they are to have you. You don't need to wow them with diamond encrusted gadgets. Alpha males, on the other hand, are high maintenance. His wardrobe is likely bigger than yours.
11)   Geeks might be awkward sometimes, but they're genuine and compassionate. Alpha males might be smooth, but most of the time it's a well practiced act.
12)   A lot of geeks have an understated sort of hotness. What's even better is they're humble. I love nerdy t-shirts and jeans more than leather on leather.
13)   Geeks won't watch you while you're sleeping. They understand it's not romantic. It's creepy!

Having been cooped up in her apartment for months, Stefanie Porter didn't think one run in the woods would matter. The wolf within her needed to stretch her legs, but obviously she didn't have very good instincts. Her former pack found her, and they almost catch her too, but a mysterious lone wolf jumps in to help Stefanie escape.

The pack is driven by their cruel Alpha, Wyatt. He refuses to give Stefanie her freedom even after she lost the challenge to lead them and left their territory. She can hide in her apartment, or the lone wolf can teach her some of his unusual urban survival tricks. James Roberts might be a bit geeky, but he's smart and looks hot when the argyle sweater comes off. He has a ridiculous ambition to become a superhero, and it might be admirable if Wyatt couldn't rip him limb from limb.

With the pack scouring the city for her, Stefanie must convince James to teach her, or fight not only for her life, but his as well.

Hilarious - and true! I'm sure my wife would agree on all of those points. (And my entire family thinks I am free tech support despite the fact it is really difficult to fix a computer over the phone.) I'm not just a sexy brain though - I do have real muscles!
Christine, you really know your geeks.

Alex, my husband has the same problem trying to fix everyone's computers over the phone! Thank you. I'd like to think I'm a bit of a geek expert. :)

Absolutely love this list! I've never really understood the appeal of alphas in fiction. I'm always a sucker for the adorkable guys!

Hilarious! My hubby definitely fits this category, except he sometimes swaps his dates around on his pc calendar and gets my birthday and our anniversary mixed up . . .which makes things more creative, right?

Great post!
