Purrsonal Thursdays: Mom Love

From left to right, my mom, me, and my sister. Taken at the North Carolina Zoo in April 2006.

Yesterday was my mom’s birthday.

Kathie Ann Elmore Reich was born on October 26, 1954. Her mom was fifteen when she had her and her dad was twenty-seven. Her parents were married and stayed that way until “death do us part.” It was a different time back in the fifties. They lived in a small house in Craig County, Virginia. She didn’t have a bathroom in her house until eleventh grade (1971-1972). She graduated from Craig County High School in 1973 as her class valedictorian. She went on to graduate with a degree in French from Virginia Tech in 1977 and married my dad the same year. She didn’t do much with her degree, but both her daughters (me and my sister) have taken French classes. She helps the elderly by cleaning their homes and being a caretaker to them.

She may hate computers, but she loves writing. She writes letters to friends and family (twice actually, since she keeps a copy of them) and notes what she did each day, including what she ate. She’s an archaeologist’s dream!

We both love reading mysteries and have the same sense of humor. I call her during my lunch period at work as well as on the ride home (on speaker). We can always find something to talk about.

She’s the best mom I could have and I love her.

So happy birthday, mom, and I hope you have many, many more, even if you won’t read this because it’s on the computer.
