Oh, baby!

On Sunday evening when I was supposed to be working on my second edits for "Once Upon a December Nightmare," my parents came in from a walk and told me about a little kitten they came across. They spoke with our neighbors. The kitten didn't belong to them, and we were free to have him, if we wanted him, but it might be best to just leave him with his momma. The thing was that his mother didn't heed his cries. She was no where to be found, and it was unlikely she would come back since he was the last of his littermates after a terrible accident killed them all.

So, I did what I had to do. I woke my sister up, which is a horrible thing to do. I kept poking her, telling her to come see the kitten with me. She told me, "Ew! That's disgusting!" I tried again and again, and she finally woke up enough to understand what I wanted.

We trekked up to our neighbors' driveway, calling "Kitten, kitten! Where are you?"

Then, we heard a plaintive cry and saw a little baby striped kitten. He was so excited to see us and ran toward us as fast as his little legs would take him through the grass. I scooped him up, noticing how he smelled of motor oil, and he promptly bit my finger, searching for food. He was as light as air, and my sister and I instantly fell in love with the little fellow.

So, we took him home with us.

At first, we thought that he was no more than three weeks old, but after almost two days with us, he appears much older, probably between four-five weeks. He's getting a chubby little belly and feels heavy in your hand. His singed fur is slowly growing back. He has no injuries, appears completely healthy despite being a little underweight at first. He's using the bathroom all his own, and he enjoys eating the wet kitten food and kitten baby milk I bought him. He's just the cutest little kitty.

He likes to get me up in the middle of the night to eat, but it's not too bad. There shouldn't be many more nights of it. Our other cats don't seem to care much for him, but they'll learn to accept him. I hope.

We tried a variety of names on him, and now we are calling him Romeo. Our little Romeo. He's definitely a sweetheart, which is surprising since we're his first human contact, and I hope he'll stay sweet.

Now, I know you are all dying to see pictures, so here they are. Meet Romeo:

Aw, what an adorable lil bundle of fur! I love kitty cats (when they're babies) but I can't have one. My allergies are just too severe, even with medicine. I can't handle be around them.

But pictures work! lol

Btw, Steph left a message for you on my blog, I don't know if you saw it or not, I guess she was having a hard time finding you:

Cherie! I was hoping to catch up with you. Please send me an email at sgcardin1@yahoo.com. I picked you to win a GC for Desert Breeze for following me, but I've had a devil of time trying to find you on the Net. Forgive.

Oh she's so cute! Maybe she was sleeping in a car's engine and that's why her fur is singed. Cats like to do that because the car is warm.

I'm so glad she has a great home now. :) If I was a cat I'd live with you or Lisa.

Aww! That's too bad that you're allergic to cats, Nicole. Aubrie is too. You'll just have to look at pictures, then.

Nicole, thanks for letting me know. I missed the message, so I emailed her.

Aubrie, he is a sweetheart, and I know how his fur got singed. He was in a woodpile, and people decided to burn it at night, but they didn't know he and his siblings were in there. He was the only one to get out.

And, if you were a cat, I'd definitely take you in. :)

I also put a picture of my Cinderella kitty on the side of my blog. :D

Too Cute!! I love your kitty rescue story! We're adopting a kitten this summer, but we have to wait until we're back from vacation. I can't wait!

Couldn't be cuter or luckier. I agree, he was meant for you.

By the way -- you know the word verification capture you have to enter when posting a comment sometimes?

My word to post here is "litters." No lie!!
